The collection consists of: eight letters and 36 poems to Valeria Knapp, 1939-1940, at once intimate and chatty; 14 printed poems, sent as holiday cards, 1943-1962, signed by May Sarton to Valeria Knapp; three letters to Rochelle Holt, 28 April, 29 Aug., 6 Nov. 1978, often commenting on writing and mutual acquaintances; letter to Marty Myers, 7 Apr. 1982, a kindly and encouraging response to an aspiring young poet; and biographical sketch of Valeria Knapp titled, Valeria, the road taken, by her brother Edgar H. Knapp.

By Source, Fair use, Link May Sarton (May 3, 1912-July 16, 1995), poet and novelist, was born Elanore Marie Sarton in Wondelgem, Belgium, the daughter of George Sarton, a noted historian of science, and Eleanor Mabel Elwes, an English portrait painter and designer. Sarton moved with her parents to England, and in 1916 the family immigrated to the United States.
